The Barbell Club at Dorchester Strength and Conditioning is a mixed discipline class, meaning that individuals will work through different programmes depending on which strength sport they are engaged in.
Below is a brief out line of the various disciplines and a brief insight into their programming.
Olympic Weightlifting is a strength sport in which the athlete has three attempts to lift the heaviest weight possible in both the clean and jerk and the snatch. The best of each of these lifts are then combined to give the athlete his/her total.
Our weightlifting programme is covered over three classes per week, each class focuses on either the clean, jerk or snatch and their assistance exercises.
Powerlifting is a strength sport in which the athlete has three attempts to lift the heaviest weight possible across the back squat, bench press and deadlift. The best of each three lifts are then combined to give the athlete his/her total.
Our powerlifting programme is covered over three classes per week with a back squat day, bench day and deadlift day.
Strongman is a strength sport where athletes preform various weighted carries, lift unusual objects and preform other feats of strength that you may have seen on the Worlds Strongest Man.
Our strongman training is broken into two phases split over three sessions covering event training and a progressive strength programme covering the squat, press and deadlift.
