At Dorchester Strength and Conditioning we offer a 6am Strength and Performance class, in this blog I will highlight some of the advantages early morning training offers over the more conventional evening classes.
1) Speeds up metabolism.
Exercise boosts your metabolic rate, meaning you’ll burn more calories during the rest of the day after training compared to training later in the day or evening. This is called excess post exercise consumption or EPOC.
2) More training consistency.
Even with the best intentions and forward planning, life sometimes gets in the way of training. You may have a parents evening, a social engagement, overtime or any manner of things that could force you to miss an evening class.
The only thing likely to clash with an early morning class is your pillow. If you can get up early enough to hit the gym, then very little else is likely to get in your way.
3) More free time.
Get up, train, go to work, come home and relax. Hitting the early morning class means your evenings are free to spend with family, socialise or just relax.
4) Start the day with a win.
By training early you’ve set yourself up for a great day, your energy levels will be up, creativity and productivity will be increased and you can concentrate on the rest of your tasks, knowing you’ve already hit a workout.
5) Eat and drink better throughout the day.
Studies have shown that you’re more likely to eat healthily after a workout, studies have also shown that your water intake will increase and your less prone to consume sugary drinks. So by training early, you’re likely to reduce your calorific intake and make better food choices.
